Product Photography can be fun and enjoyable if the right techniques and tips are followed. The main things that you want to accomplish with Product Photography are to create a focused, lighted beautiful clear product that can be seen in all of its glory. The main things that need to be accomplished in this type of photography are good lighting, correct background, focus, decreased movement, and the photo resolution.

Here are several useful tips that can increase the quality of any products photo. One problem that most people seem to have is with dark images on lighter backgrounds. Many pictures seem to come out too dark or too light. The trick to this is to turn on the exposure compensation controls on the digital camera, the EV-exposure value is the control that can lighten or darken the background of a photo and just by adjusting that number the background can be changed.

Another problem with product photos is with the focus, most digital cameras have an auto focus feature but this feature rarely accentuates the photo of a product. The best way to get the correct focus for a product photo is to put the camera in spot focus mode this gives you more control over the sharpness. Another great way to control the focus and moving of objects is to use a tripod this will keep the object still for all types of photos. The tripod is great for close up shots and the way to get a great close up shot is by setting the aperture priority mode on the camera to the highest value possible.

With Product Photography the lighting is very important you don’t want a dark shadow on your object or a faint color. The best way to get the perfect lighting is to use daylight or a light tent. The best light tent to use is the EZ Cube and the EZ Cube rigging. They come in several sizes and they allow the object to be suspended by invisible wire. The best lights to use in addition to the cubes are photo flood lights and compact fluorescent bulbs. Product lighting does not require strobes or flashes.

Another thing that I recommend is to invest in a good image editing software package. This will allow you to adjust your photos any way you want.

For the less expensive product photography cameras I suggest the Cannon Power shot A or S series they are affordable and they get the job done. If you want the best results you could go with more expensive models like the Nikon D60 or the Canon SLR.
