How To Take Pictures Of Hotels

If you are photographer such as myself then, buildings are one of the most beautiful things that you can take a picture of. To capture the essence of a landscape or image is what makes good photography. There are many attributes that can define the feeling of the photograph. These are: color, angle, distance and light. So if you are just a beginner or are an advanced photographer just looking for new ideas then, I hope that this article that I am writing will be helpful to you. Lets take a look at some of the concepts that I mentioned and apply them to the photography of hotels.
Light
is probably one of the most important concepts of photography, so I will touch
on that one first. Light sets the mood of the photograph. Whether it is just a
little motel in the afternoon on a snowy highway in Canada or a huge casino
hotel underneath the stars in Las Vegas. It is important to capture the
photograph at the time of day that would best describe the story that you want
to tell in the picture. Night or dusk gives the feeling of calmness and
tranquility whereas noon would be bright and lively.
Color gives the viewers of the photograph a sense of time and place. Black and white pictures give the viewer the feeling of age; even if it is of a brand new hotel. Bright colors are full of action and movement. The color that you choose will affect what story you want to deliver to your viewers.
Angle defines the attribute of the hotel. An angle from the sky looking down upon the hotel would give a sense of smallness or maybe even weakness. Looking from the ground up would send the feeling of power and greatness. Personally, one of my favorite angles to use is a distorted or weird angle which is for a crazy or an odd sense of feeling.
Distance is the length of space between you and the object that you are photographing. Distance is a unique concept in photography. It is what allows you to capture other objects in the photograph adding a feeling of scenery. You could take a picture of a New York hotel from down the street; the distance would allow you to capture in maybe a fire hydrant, a burnt out street light and maybe some power lines with a pair of shoes dangling from them. Distance is all part of what you can obtain from the foreground as well as the background.
Photography is a great way to express yourself and your surroundings. Whether photography is your career or just a past time; I hope that this article has been helpful for you.
