Taking a digital picture of your children is easier than you think. If you want a great picture, then take lots of pictures. Let your child get used to the camera. However don't choose one that clashes or competes with your children's clothes. You can use props also. Your child's favorite toy or sports equipment are just a few examples. You can try many different ones until you have just the right look. A tripod for the camera is also nice to have when taking these kinds of pictures. It keeps you free to make adjustments and to keep the children smiling. But the element of surprise makes a great shot. A child that isn't posed is just waiting to be in that next candid photo. Wether it be children playing or asleep, a child acting naturally is probably the photos you will want.

To achieve the best pictures, no matter what kind you are taking. Bring the camera to their level. If this means getting down on your knees then do it. See things from their perspective, through their eyes. This also brings you closer to the action, to whatever is happening at the time. This will get you pictures with great results, with your children being the main focus, which of course is the ultimate goal.
