Mountain Hut - Múli
My mountain hut was built by my grandfather in 1945 right after the WWII war ended. He got the remains of the generals cabin and used it to build the hut.

Here is how it looked like for years. A really magical place to be with lots of warm memories - although the insulation was almost none so the nights where often chilly.

After all these years it was getting rather sad and saggy. Time to either remove it or do a complete rebuilding. With the help of my brother in law we stared working on the project.
Still - there was a lot of tearing down. All the rotten timber had to be removed and this included both the framing and the under sheeting as well as the windows. Still you can easily recognize the mountain hut as the same.
In addition the foundation was made of old timer telephone poles and the house was just sitting on the ground. This meant we had to start by removing all the flooring, jack up the house and make new concrete foundation poles.
I draw a small addition and you can see the foundation on the picture. You can also see how much we had to rebuild of the internal framework.

Here the addition is framed and inner sheeting is well on its way.

That's my wife Álfheiður standing in front and me on the left ladder and my brother in law Steini on the right. We are putting the sealing panel in place. Above that will come good isolation and the rest of the roof. This is also where the new door will be.

After re-sheeting with the same type of zink plated wavy iron it is beginning to look like a proper hut again.
There is still a lot of inside work left to do - but we are going to finish this as soon as we can.
