This is an African antelope called impala. It is widely hunted over Africa. Makes great biltong, that is basically meat marinated in vinegar and salt and spices, then left to dry out for a while. The meat goes hard and every person in africa knows the boertjies make the best biltong.
This buck as we refer to it breeds very well and easily sustains the level of hunting we do. Some places we actually have to cull sometimes to protect the flora of that area.
It is also the most gracious of all small antelope. In Afrikaans we call it “rooibok” it translates to “redbuck” after its colour.
