Digital photography is when you use digital technology to shoot photos and work with the picture in a digital form for the whole lifecycle. In digital photography the film is replaced with a small chip that turns light and colors into digital information and stores it on a memory card. Digital images can be displayed, printed, stored, manipulated, transmitted, and archived using digital and computer techniques, without chemical processing. Digital images can also be made by scanning conventional photographic images or films.

Before digital technology, photography used photographic film to create images using special chemistry and methods.
